Pina Marfisi has owned and operated Acqua Salon since 1997. With a successful and well-rounded background in the industry, Pina has created an award-winning salon, filled with highly educated staff, training them personally to offer a high level of service and a unique experience. Her education began at Marvel School in Toronto. Upon graduation she apprenticed for one year on Yonge and Eglington in Toronto and returned to Guelph to begin her career at Friends Hair Designers. She has studied the art of hair all over North America and Europe with top trainers including Aveda, Vidal Sassoon, Toni and Guy, Sanrizz Academy and Trevor Sorbie. Her competitive and platform work has carried her locally and internationally, placing first and second and sharing her work as far as Vincenza, Italy. She now shares that passion with her staff, training and coaching them to compete in National level competitions in Montreal and Toronto, and internationally in Paris, Milan, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, and soon Korea. She is an active member or the Master Judges Panel of Canada, and is a recipient of the Platinum Lifetime Achievement Crystal. Her judging career carries her across Canada and the United States, as well as recently being certified in Paris as an international judge member for the OMC. Her participation and avid outreach in the community is extensive, and she continues to search for ways to give back. Her passion for education has been a driving force in her business allowing her to open a second location in July 2015 with an addition of an Aveda spa.
Nikki has been with Acqua since the age of 14, crafting an impressive career in the industry? She began all of her training with the Acqua family and completed a full apprenticeship at the salon. She has attended many courses including Men's cutting with Gina Derry and Dean Veri, Legendary classic cutting with Aveda's Tristan Morrison, Balayage training, competition cutting and styling with world champion Tindaro Orifici, textured cutting with Aldo Furfaro of Saco academy and Upstyles with Martin Parsons. She is continuously updating her colour and product knowledge in the Aveda world, also educating herself in the makeup world as well. Nikki has also competed in the ABA Men's Professional cut and style competition for the last few years and in 2011 placed third in Menʼs Avant Garde Cut and Style at the ABAʼs in Toronto. Nikki enjoys being a part of Acqua's community work and fundraising events. Nikki is a very bright and bubbly young lady who loves cutting hair.
Anne started her career at Acqua in 2005 studying under Pina while doing her full apprenticeship in the salon. From there she has taken numerous courses through Aveda, focusing on everything from classic and trendy women's cuts, new color techniques and upstyles as well as men's cutting and styling from American Crew. She also really enjoys researching new looks online and in magazines and figuring out how to recreate and customize them for her guests in the salon. In April 2015 she entered her first hair competition placing 6 out of 22 in the Battle of the Barbers at the annual ABA in Toronto.
Melissa has been at Acqua since 2004. She has attended many courses throughout her career including Eufora razor cutting in San Diego, California, Toni and Guy Cut and Colour in New York City, Schwarzkopf colour classes, Cutting with Tristan Morrison and many Aveda product knowledge and colour courses. She competed in the Toronto ABA Women's evening fashion makeup competition. Melissa always participates in the Acqua family community events and fundraisers. She's looking forward to taking a barbering class this spring and updating her techniques.
Since Lisa finished school at Voila institute of Hair Design, and started working a Acqua in 2002 she has furthered her education extensively. She has taken numerous hair cutting, styling, creative colour, and makeup courses under the direction of top Aveda Masters, as well as Vidal Sassoon, Martin Parsons, and Cecelia Leatherberry. She loves texture, and is excellent with naturally curly and wavy hair. Her passion for texture has brought her to New York city to train exclusively with Aveda curl master stylists. Lisa has travelled to Frankfurt, Germany to assist her teammates as a makeup artist for OMC Hairworld in 2014 helping to secure a spot in the top 10. Lisa is an active participant in all of Acqua's community involvement and fundraising initiatives, and she is always eager to collaborate when the Aqcua team is preparing for shows and competitions.
Alessandra arrived to us 100% Aveda trained at the Aveda Institute in Toronto, lead by a number of leading stylists in the industry: Tristan Morrison and Morgan Roy just name a few. Alessandra has a passion for colouring hair and loves being a part of an industry that is constantly evolving "I enjoy learning new techniques!" She has also participated in classes taught by world champion Tindaro Orifici and Aldo Furfaro of Saco Academy. She loves the social part of hairstyling and making people look and feel their best.
Teija has been at Acqua since 2008 and completed her apprenticeship with us and began her career at Acqua. Teija is an extremely passionate stylist who has been very active the competitive world of hairstyling. She began competing in 2009 in the Men's Avant Garde cutting competition at the Toronto ABA's. This in turn sparked a keen interest in Teija, which she then turned into competitive success. With multiple wins across Ontario and Quebec in both men's and women's cutting and makeup, she strived for more. She had competed on behalf of Canada in Frankfurt, Milan and twice in Paris. Her next journey will be to Korea for the 2016 OMC Hairworlds. She has trained with some of the world's best, including world champion competitor Tindaro Orifici. She has also had the honour of styling hair for Cirque de soleil for the Pan Am games. Teija treats every haircut with every client as if it were to be judged and creates award winning looks. She loves her job.
Jocelyn came to us originally as a co-op student. Her passion for competition began at an early age, while she was enrolled in cosmetology in highschool. She competed in the local Skills Canada competition and won Regionals 3 times. In 2015 she won first place in provincials and travelled to Saskatoon for nationals placing 4th. Jocelyn has also won first and second place at the Toronto ABA junior women's trend cut and style competition. These accomplishments lead her to Paris to compete in women's progressive cut in the OMC Euro Cup. She has been fortunate to train with some incredibly talented people including OMC world champion Tindaro Orifici. She does beautiful cut and colour work and is currently growing her clientele. She can't wait to continue competing internationally
Amanda has been working at acqua since 2013. Many find her to be very social and have a great sense of humour and personality. She came knowing very little about hair and now In the process of completing her apprenticeship. She absolutely loves the beauty industry,learning new trends, techniques and sees herself persuing her career as a professional colourist. She enjoys working at acqua simply because of the environment and our lovely staff that provides great learning skills and assistance to everyone as needed. She couldn't be more happier working with such an incredible colour line like Aveda. "I appreciate that they have done much for our environment and that we can feel safe and secure using their products from nature on our guests." She hopes to continue to work with Aveda and keep learning. " I couldn't be any happier and satisfied finding a career that has such inspiration such as this one. "
Liam is the newest member to our clan. Having attended cosmetology school at Voila institute in Kitchener, ON with an interest in using his hands for work and a love for fashion, cutting hair seemed like the best thing for him to do. Since then, Liam has attended many classes while working full time, outside of work. These include: the For the Love Tour with Julias Ceaser, Scott Ramos, Vince the Barber and Castemanos, The Groomology 101 class with Adam The Apprentice, Shawn Barbz, Khanartist, Mr Official, Moody OC and Los Cutit; and lastly, the Higher Learning Leaders Workshop with Scott Ramos and Diego Elizarraras. These classes have made Liam's passion for men's hair much stronger and has given him amazing progress. Liam is continuously growing as a stylist and as a person at a fast rate with credit he thanks to his amazing team at Acqua. Having a very strong skill for men's cut, Liam's plan is to continue down that road whilst working on other fields in hair.
